David Cavazos Obituary

September 24, 1946 - June 29, 2017
David M. Cavazos was born September 24, 1946, in San Antonio, TX to Raul and Angela Cavazos. On June 29, 2017, the world lost this extraordinary man, and he joined his parents, sister, niece, and beloved father-in-law in heaven. David was immersed in the love of his adoring family and friends, leaving behind his loving and devoted wife of 46 blessed years, Rosalinda, his admiring son, David Jr. (wife Kym and daughter, Mina), and his dearest daughter, Diana. He will also be honored by his extended family: mother-in-law, Isabel Centeno, sister-in-law, Dianne (Pete) Garcia, brother-in-law, Billy (Patti) Centeno, nephew Billy III (Ashley and daughter, Mason) Centeno, and niece, Sarah Centeno (son Ryan). He is survived by his siblings: Anna (Bill) Cornish and Raul (Beth) Cavazos. David lived a beautiful and happy life. After playing football at Fox Tech High School, he immediately entered into service for his country and was deployed to Vietnam where he served honorably and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor for showing heroism in the line of duty. He returned home in 1969 and, through Providence, was reunited with Rosie who he had known in high school. They fell in love and within two years were married on April 24, 1971. They wanted a family and after much effort had their first child, David, after five years. Nine years later, they were surprised to be pregnant with their daughter, Diana. David spent his entire life taking care of others. He found his calling on February 17, 1975, when joining the San Antonio Fire Department. There he fostered an even larger family of brothers and sisters who called him the Silver Fox. David was truly happy and loved his career, retiring in 2007, after 32 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and coaching soccer to kids he loved as his own. He loved so hard, so many, and so unconditionally, that he was loved by all in return. He lived his life without a care in the world, lit a room up with his laughter, and made everyone smile. He devoted his life to his family and friends, and we will honor his memory with every smile.
He loved us all ten times over, more than any one person deserves, and that love will carry us on.
A visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 10, 2017 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A funeral procession will depart at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for a 9:45 a.m. graveside service.
