DAVID GARCIA Obituary

David Cruz Garcia, 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather and friend went to be with the Lord on September 6, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 1/2 years, Ramona S. Garcia, his daughter Margaret Ann Castillo and S-I-L John Castillo, his parents Pedro and Petra Garcia, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by his daughters Yolanda De Leon, Diana Ramos (Raymond), Mary Jane De La O (Anthony) and Cecilia Marie Harris (James); his brother Luis C Garcia, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, nieces, nephews and his beloved dog Charlie. David was born and raised in Austin, TX, where he met his bride, the former Ramona Salazar, also from Austin. Soon after marrying, they moved to San Antonio where David worked for American Optical and later pursued a career at Kelly Air Force Base before retiring. The family would like to thank VITAS Hospice, especially nurses Melissa and Brian, for the wonderful care they gave to our father.

The family must regretfully limit attendance at the funeral services to immediate family due to health and safety concerns. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Please sign the online guestbook at www.theangelusfuneralhome.com

Yolanda, my dad (and I) spoke with your dad last year (I think) as they reconnected. It was great to see them visiting by phone as they were such good friends back when we lived on Fenfield. Mom had tried to connect with her comadre also and was never able to. I hope your happy memories of your parents together brings you joy and comfort even at this time. I just happened to look for your dad online today and found the obit. He had a good long happy life with his sweetheart. I'm sure he was happy to see her again. I have great memories of both.

Rest in Peace, sweet Uncle David. I will always remember you as one of the kindest souls with the warmest and most gentle eyes, and spirit. You will be dearly missed. I consider myself very lucky to see you as a little girl when my family used to travel to San Antonio to visit you and Aunt Mona. You always welcomed us with such warmth and kindness, and as a child I may not have realized the positive impact of that love, as I do today as an adult.

To the Garcia Family,
I offer you my deepest condolences on this significant loss for your family. There is nothing like losing a father, and I know your lives will never be the same. Like my own father, David was a jewel and I have fond memories of their good friendship that I saw as a child and adult. May the Lord grant you all the strength and peace you need during this difficult time. I am here for you and will be praying for you during this very sad time.

Love,
Jacinta

Cousins, I am so sorry for your loss. You know someone has to be so special to you when you can still remember the times (that I can remember), when we were just young kids and my parents, John and Janie Salazar, would take us to San Antonio to visit you all. I remember the times we would play in your backyard and eat hot dogs! My Uncle David always had the sweetest smile, and my memories of him will be his kindness to us, his hugs, and always being so happy to see us.

Uncle David. Such a dear man! He so loved his family. He will be missed by so many. May his family be comforted by the prayers we are all saying. May they be comforted by all the wonderful things they remember about him, especially his smile and kind heart. Just seeing his smile in this photos brings tears to my eyes, he was so comforting saying words, his gentle soul emanated from his smile. I send my love! May his memory be eternal.
