Donald Holland Obituary
Donald Ray Holland, CLU, ChFC, LUTCF, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died on May 12, 2003 after a courageous and brave war against acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Mr. Holland was 59 years old and had serviced many families in San Antonio for over three decades through his insurance agency. He was a member of the National Association of Insurance Financial Associates, formerly known as National Association of Life Underwriters, of which he served as president in 1979 until 1980 in San Antonio. He served on the Board of Directors and Board of Governors for the San Antonio Board of Estate Planners. He was a previous Board of Director and Treasurer of CITA, Concerned Insurance Texas Agents, where he helped organize the campaign for G.W. Bush's Texas Gubernatorial election. Mr. Holland was active in politics throughout his life and was a proud contributor and volunteer to many political initiatives and even served as one of the first elected Republican Precinct Chairmen in San Antonio. Some other organizations he was active in were the National Insurance Financial Consultants, Life Underwriting Training Council, Society of Charter Life Underwriters, Charter Financial Consultants, Williamson County Genealogical Society, Republican Men's Club of Bexar County, National Association of State Farm Agents and the Alamo PC Organization. Don was also a brother of Theta Sigma Chi and served as President and Vice President. Born at Ft. Sam Houston to Emmett Andrew and LaVerne Holland. Don is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lita K. Holland; two sons, Philip Holland and his wife Sara, who greatly helped with his care during his illness, and Allan Holland; two grandsons, Andrew and Blake Holland; father, Emmett Andrew Holland; brothers, David and Kenneth Holland; nephews, Jeffery and Matthew Holland, Steven and David Croft; nieces, Denise and Stephanie Holland and Dr. Sharon Croft. The family wishes to thank all of his friends who have been there for us and they would also wish to extend their sincerest gratitude to his brother, Kenneth Holland, for his life saving stem cell donation. Visitation will be Thursday, May 15, 2003 from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2003 at 12:00 Noon in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. Charles A. Rogers, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
