Doris Currie Obituary

God blessed Forrest and Ann Gribble with their only child, a baby girl they named Doris Lucille, on January 20, 1921, in Dayton, Ohio. That little girl grew up to be a blessing to us, her family, and beyond us to everyone she met. She passed on peacefully to be with her Lord 9/25/04. She left a legacy of enthusiasm for living and selfless giving. Doris grew up in Dayton where she married John Morgan Currie, her husband of 63 years. She is survived by him and her 3 children, Donald, Jane and Tom, her 'adopted' son, Kazuichi Mihara, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and her children's extended families. She served several local organizations as president in most of them including Lee High School PTA, Methodist Hospital Bluebirds, Texas Hospital Auxiliary, Bexar County Hospital gift shop, and American Field Service student exchange program. She was an accomplished artist in pottery and painting and a musician on accordion and piano. She made a home where family and friends gathered daily to enjoy the atmosphere of hospitality she and 'Jack' created. We all miss you! Jack, Donald and Rhonda Currie, Jane and Jimmy Parker, Tom Currie, Jack and Jana Parker, Stephen and Danyel Parker, Patience and Dan West, Logan and Grant Parker, Sean Parker, Laurel Currie, Rachel and Brant Dixon, Andrew Currie, Jared and Jonathan Blakely, and Kazuichi, Margaret, Mari, and Naomi Mihara. The family extends special thanks to the people of Vitas Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the Thrift Chapel of Trinity Baptist Church, 319 E. Mulberry; reception following. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations as a memorial gift in honor of Doris Currie to the National Stroke Association, 1-800-STROKES.
