Edward Kane Obituary

KANE
Edward L. Kane age 85 of San Antonio died Friday, April 29, 2010. Ed Kane is survived by his wife of 50 years, Frances Pizzini Kane; son, Edward Charles Kane; sister, Edna Gallagher. Born in Philadelphia, Ed Kane would carry his love for nature into all aspects of his life. While serving as a pilot for the U.S. Air Force, he earned the nickname "Professor" for studying and describing the fauna, flora and ecosystems his squadron would fly over on the radio. A highly decorated World War II and Korean War Veteran, Mr. Kane began serving his country in 1942. Retiring as a Major in 1965, he served as a fighter, bomber and test pilot. Upon his retirement from the military, Ed Kane went from being called "Professor" to serving as one for nearly 15 years. While at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Mr. Kane completed Ph.D. studies in zoology, ornithology, herpetology, behavioral ecology, and science education. He became a professor in the late 1960's and went on to teach a variety of subjects at the University of Florida, Mississippi Valley State University and Texas State University. In the 1980s Mr. Kane returned to civil service and worked as a liaison for the Department of Defense. Ed Kane lived a full and rich life, he will be greatly missed by those who knew him. A Memorial Mass will be offered Friday at 8:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors. We enjoyed having Mr. Kane and his delightful wife as neighbors at Andalusia Condominiums for 7 years. We are sorry to hear of his passing and will miss seeing him around the courtyard. Dr. and Mrs. Carlos Orozco
