DearFay, I just learned of Jim's passing doing a Google search. For the past few months I struggled to find Jim's telephone no.(Since I switched cell phones & his no.stayed behind on my old cell phone). Today, I was sure that we would be able to use Google & find his no. I was looking forward to reconnect with him. Jim & I developed a very strong friendship thru out the years. I have so many memories of our times together that I could write a book. My heartfelt condolences to you & the boys. Jim is now in heaven practicing his Spanish & telling the many funny jokes that he used to tell all of us.
A great human being has left us, but our loss is heaven's gain. Sincerely, Gerry Mariani

It's time for my next FAA medical exam so of course I'm thinking of you Dr. Armstrong! You were my first aviation medical examiner when I got my student pilot certificate in 1993! Thank you for all the wonderful years! We all miss you and your wonderful stories! You will live on forever in our hearts. I have met so many pilots since you've passed, they all felt the same way about you and had nothing but the kindest words and the fondest of memories of you. It's tough finding another AME after you've had the best! Hugs and prayers to Fay and the family. She was always there to help me out with anything I needed, amazing lady! Forever Skyward!

1964-1967 USS Holland, Rita, Spain. It was the best of times. Jim had just started flying. He frequently came aboard the ship ignoring acceptable Navy attire. When properly dressed in Navy whites you knew he was wearing pink socks. It was the best of times. Our family room proudly displays a picture with Jim and Fay having a lot of laughs in a small alley bar in Granada, Spain. Our condolences to Fay and her family. We miss you.

I ditto the many messages already made. I always felt at ease with Dr Armstrong, though he told me once I had one of the worst cases of white coat syndrome he'd seen. He picked up on my dislike for physical exams. I am going to miss him! Condolences to Faye and the family.

One of the most reflective, thoughtful and intelligent persons I have ever known. Even at 81 had the presence of someone half his age. He met everyone wherever they were at in the journey in life and made them feel at ease. I will certainly miss seeing him every six months. DEFPOTEC.

Thirty years of flight physicals with Dr. Armstrong and Mrs. Armstrong. There were none any better for both what was required by the FAA and friendship! Thank you Fay and Doc for keeping me flying and always leaving the office with a smile on my face and a warm heart.

I always got a smile on my face every six months when I was lucky enough to get to pay Dr Armstrong a visit for my FAA physical. We would always have a lively conversation in German which we were both excited to get to practice with each other. His care and compassion for everyone he came in contact with were his calling cards. Dr Armstrong was a kind soul and San Antonio was a better place for having him. I will miss him dearly.

From FAA physicals, surrogate parenting, political advice and feedback, Dr. Armstrong and Fay have been a very important part of my life for the last 24 years.
Over the years, I've seen you both around the city at restaurants, little league games and grocery stores and I realize how much I've always looked up to you. Dr Armstrong corresponded with me a few times in letters over political topics and it really helped me shape a more practical view of the world. You both have a solid family and work ethic that I strive to emulate, a sorely needed attribute in today's world.
Thank you so much for everything!

I've known Dr. Armstrong since 1980. I once asked him if he were reactivated for service would be return? His reply, "As long as I could put the boat on cruise control so I could take my daily nap, Yes. He always made us smile. So many wonderful memories. He always went above and beyond to help me and my family. He will be missed dearly. Prayers of strength to Fay and family in this time of sorrow.

I will sincerely miss him. He helped me greatly in my career by helping me keep my medical certification. After many of my physicals he would give me his stern look and say now you got get this fixed before it becomes a problem. I always did as he said because he conveyed his concern and care for you as a person. At the end of each physical he'd just sit and talk to me or tell me a funny story. He was a gifted doctor and a good man. My prayers go to his family through this difficult time.

After 40+ years of flight physicals, Doc Armstrong was the absolute Best! He gave two of my sons and my nephew their first Class III's and he would always get a kick out of me telling him that he is responsible for their success: an Emergency Medicine MD, a C-17 pilot, and a junior Skywest FO. May God bless the Doc, his beautiful wife and everyone's favorite-Mrs Armstrong-and his entire family.
