James Holmgreen Obituary

James E. Holmgreen passed away May 28, 2002 in a local hospital. Jim was 77. He was born August 27, 1924, in Alice, to Clarence and Myrtle Holmgreen. Jim owned Holmgreen Mortuary for over 50 years. He graduated from William Adams High School and Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. He attended the University of Texas. He was a World War II Army veteran. Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Alice; he was a former Sunday School teacher, a Lay Speaker and served on the Board of Stewards. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the S.B. Mosser Masonic Lodge in Alice and the Al Amine Shrine Temple in Corpus Christi. He was a Past Master of the Mason lodge and the recipient of the Golden Trowel Award for exceptional service. Jim formerly was active with the Boy Scouts and was a former member of the Alice Noon Kiwanis. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Bruce Holmgreen, and by a sister, Jean Stoore. Survivors include his wife, Marjean Holmgreen of Alice; three daughters, Anna Holmgreen, Judy Holmgreen and Martha Holmgreen, all of Alice; one son, James Craig (Cindy) Holmgreen of Alice; two sisters, Claire Frances Bradley and Grace Fields, both of Alice; three grandchildren, J., David, and Adreann Holmgreen. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 29, 2002 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Holmgreen Mortuary. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, May 30, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Alice. Burial will follow in the Alice Cemetery.
