JAMES RAINES Obituary

On January 14, 2021 James Gregory Raines loving father of three children passed away at age of 57.

Greg was born in Dallas, Texas in 1963 to James and Judy Raines. He graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1982 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science from the School of Engineering and Applied Science at SMU in 1986 where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He furthered his education by earning his Masters of Business at Texas A&M in 1991. His brilliant mind was apparent in every endeavor he pursued. His loyalty was perhaps most obvious by his 27-year tenure at Computer Solutions. A man of integrity, Greg always kept his word.

Many considered Greg a Renaissance man; a person whose quest for knowledge was insatiable. He was a talented cook who could be found in the kitchen preparing "the perfect steak and potato" all while listening to contemporary jazz as an avid Pat Metheny fan. He held a strong affection for animals and spent countless hours training his beloved Labrador Retrievers. One in particular, "Goober", was his friend for life and faithful hunting buddy. Goober not only could flip a cookie from his nose and catch it midair but was also so obedient he would release a hamburger midbite upon Greg's request. Greg's compassionate heart was obvious to all who knew him.

His accomplishments were many but without question he would say his greatest achievement in life was his three children: Austin, Rachel, Spencer whom he loved dearly. He was incredibly proud of each one. Greg was quirky, faithful, and mischievous and loved nothing more than spending time with his family.

Greg was preceded in death by his sister, Ashley Talley Raines.

He is survived by his three children Austin Echols Raines, Rachel Catherine Raines, and Spencer McPike Raines. His mother Judy Haskins Raines, his father James (Karol) McPike Raines as well as his sisters and their families: Drs. Shannon (Ben) Raines Espy, Hillary (Trey) Raines Wilson and his nieces and nephews Madeleine, Claudia, Benjamin, Eli, Jack, and Talley. Greg is also survived by the mother of his children, Michelle Simpson.

A private service was held to honor Greg and his faithful heart for God.

Greg will be sorely missed and forever remembered. In the short time I knew Greg, he was a kind, thoughtful and funny man! And, yes, he could bar-b-que. I had the pleasure, along with several others, to experience his multi-tasking cookout - great food and great company! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and hope good memories live on past this difficult time.

He was always willing to help. I was frozen emotionally when I heard of his passing. He was so smart and kind. He will be missed on Friday nights.
