Jay Dunfield Obituary

September 25, 1964 - January 19, 2017
Jay Douglas Dunfield was born September 25, 1964. The notorious life of the party whose passions for living and adventure were unparalled, Doug died unexpectedly in his sleep Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the young age of 52.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife Julie Wilson and his children Hunter Dunfield, Beau and Juliana Wilson. His parents Ed and Jane Dunfield and his sister Marijke Carey and brother-in-law Rusty Carey. His nieces and nephews Ashleigh Woodman and her husband JR Woodman, Crystal Elliott, Henderson Clepper, Ian Carey, Matt Carey and Micah Carey. And great nephews and nieces Vincent Perez, George Woodman and Alayna Clepper.

Doug never knew a stranger and had the disarming ability to make each person he met feel like they were the most special person in the room. A great storyteller, Doug filled the air with hilarity and joy: his laugh contagious, his sincerity obvious and his zeal for adventure endless. With Doug, the glass was not only half full, but overflowing.

Professionally Doug started in the family business 25 years ago eventually becoming President-Director of Roto-Flex Oven Co. The best pizza ovens on the market, they could even be found on the Jersey Shore.

A lover of all things outdoors, Doug could be found fishing for reds in Rockport, trout in Wyoming, catfish in Hillsboro; deer hunting and wingshooting in South Texas; tubing and kayaking on the Guadalupe and relaxing on the beaches in La Jolla.

Though for Doug the best moments were those when surrounded by his family. His love and pride for Hunter, Beau and Juliana was obvious to all who knew him. And these last years were filled with joy as he found and married the love of his life Julie. Doug will be sadly missed by all.

A memorial service celebrating Doug's life will be held Thursday, January 26, 2017.

Although it's been what seems a long time ago I have great memories of lining up right next to Doug on the O line at Hobby and Clark when he was the center and I was Rt guard. I remember his positive attitude and toughness on the field and then his laugh and fun times off the field as we lived life as athletes, students and partiers. We survived all that and had fun too. I saw Doug again at his family business many years later just four years or so ago and he had not changed a bit. Still quick witted and funny and we talked about everything. What a great dude! He will be missed. Thanks for all the memories and fun times Doug. God Bless

We are Sunday School classmates of Doug's Mom and Dad. Our heart goes out to them with the loss of Doug. Speaking with his friends at the funeral one could tell that so many cared so very much for Doug. Believe this was one of the largest funerals we've had at Colonial Hills UMC clearly showing the great breadth of Doug's sphere of friends and associates. And now our Lord has Doug and we can all take great comfort.

So many great stories have been told of SAF Pablo... This man not only touched everyone he met on an online game but people he met in real life. The world is missing and worse without this man. Prayers to his family that they find strength out of this.

Been thinking about Doug ever since I heard... sincere condolences to his family.

He may have been Steve Martin's inspiration for "wild & crazy guy", but that was because he loved to share laughter. He was really a deep-thinker who truly cared for people.

Doug was one of the kindest, friendliest, most caring persons I have ever known. He truly made everyone he spoke to feel so special and he listened. I once told him a story about how I had asked for a football helmet for years to be able to play with the boys when I elementary school, but never got one because my parents thought it inappropriate at the time. I was just rambling. Lo and behold, years late, Doug gave me a football helmet for my 50th birthday. He listened and acted and was so charming and personal and honest. I will always miss his quick wit, charm, the twinkle in his eyes, thoughtfulness and fun-loving ways. He was bigger than life and always will be. God bless you Doug today and forever.

My Dad once described Doug as a big friendly puppy dog when he coached him in youth football. I always thought that described him pretty well. He was fun-loving, fun to be around and had a big heart. I have some great memories growing up with him. Rest peacefully Big Doug.

Always had a good laugh with u mate and u never took things to serious. Really sad Ur life was cut so short. There were hundreds of people u effected in a good way. Whilst we only met online through a game chat, u were respected and liked by many many players and have left a hole hard to fill. I am sure I speak for many in the game when I say u will be sorely missed and our prayers are with all Ur friends and family at the moment. Many a memories to remember but not for hereSleep well and peacefully my friendSteve D
