Jerry Sparks Obituary

Jerry Max Sparks
February 28, 2023
Jerry Max Sparks, our father, husband, brother, partner, and friend, passed away on February 28, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. He was 78 years old.

Born in San Antonio in 1944 to George and Delia Sparks, Jerry was the third of four children. He graduated from Burbank High School, attended the A&M School of Architecture, graduated from UT School of Architecture, served four years as an officer in the US Air Force, and spent his professional life as an award winning architect with several San Antonio firms. He was a loving husband to his wife, Daniella Sparks, proud father of his four children, Jodi Lowther, Paul Sparks, Wesley Sparks, and Spenser Sparks, loving grandfather to fourteen grandchildren, as well as a life-long friend of his former wives, Nora Brandon, and Louise Sparks.

Growing up, he found a great love for reading, history, and drawing. Valuing kindness and loyalty to others, Jerry made many friends during his school years and beyond who remained close throughout his life. He credited his family, friends, mentors, and business associates with helping him to become the man he was. His architectural prowess won him myriad awards locally and nationally, and several of his designs were published in architectural periodicals. He designed many buildings in San Antonio and surrounding areas, including dorms at Trinity and Our Lady of the Lake Universities, the entrance to Sea World and Shamu Stadium, USAA Child Development Center, and UT Charlene McCombs Softball Stadium just to name a few.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Daniella Sparks; daughter Jodi Lowther (Robert); son Paul Sparks (Kimbra); son Wesley Sparks (Katrina); son Spenser Sparks (Meagan); stepson George Sarnev (Sunday), stepdaughter Janette Evans (Dave), honorary daughter Christina Stock (Kyle), sister Joan Wilson (Ronald); fourteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Delia Sparks, brother Gene Sparks, and sister Jane Slaughter.
A celebration of life will be held at 9:30 am on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave., followed by graveside services at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. The family invites you to share pictures, memories, or condolences at everloved.com.
