John Holcomb Obituary

John Holcomb
December 14, 1939 - December 8, 2024
John L Holcomb passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones, on December 8, 2024. Born in Reynolds, Indiana to Francis & Helen Holcomb. Though he lived in Texas for many years, he always loved his home state, often referring to himself as a "San Antonio Hoosier."
He graduated high school at Saint Bede Academy in Peru IL (1957), but considered himself a student of the world. His extensive travels to various countries fostered an appreciation for different cultures and love for the friends he made globally.
A daring entrepreneur, John had businesses in Construction, HR, Insurance, and a boutique medical laundry - Scrubs Medical.
John embraced the identity of a global citizen when he joined the San Antonio Northeast Rotary Club in the 1980s. Throughout his involvement, he held various leadership positions at both the club and district levels, culminating in his election as the District Governor for Rotary International District 5840 in the 2000-2001 term. During his tenure, John's guiding principle was the Rotary motto, "Service Above Self," which inspired him to lead the district in impactful local initiatives and international projects. John was also proud being designated as a "Kentucky Colonel" for his many years of service to his community.
John is survived by his husband Freddy, his family by choice and many special friends. His celebration of life took place in his home on his 85th birthday, old and new friends joined to say goodbye and sing Happy Birthday one last time.
