John Trowbridge Obituary

JOHN KEENE Tony TROWBRIDGE World War II Veteran On September 15, 2007, our Lord put His loving arms around him and took him up to heaven to be with him for eternity. John was 82 years old and was preceded in death by his parents John and Ruth Burgess Trowbridge and his step parents John and Lorraine Sherwood. John was born February 5, 1925 in Orange, New Jersey and graduated from Chatham High School, New Jersey, in 1942. After serving in the Marine Corps during WWII he graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1950 with a BS degree in Journalism. He served as a sports writer for the Dallas Morning News for two and one-half years and sports writer and assistant sports editor for the San Antonio Light for 28 years. After retirement from the Light in 1980 he moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and served as copy editor in the Features department for the Gazette Telegraph. He is survived by his loving family, wife, Faye, sons Steven and Clifford, daughter-in-law, Linda and three grand-children, Paul, Jamie, and Brian, brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Virginia Lewis of Castroville and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at Oak Hills Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Katherine Barlow-Williams officiating on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 2:00pm with services concluding at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Brain Tumor Association or charity of your choice.

I had the privilege of working with John in the early 70's at the Light where I was a part-timer. He was a perfect gentleman, an outstanding editor and an all-around good person to work with. I know his family will miss him. May he rest peacefully in his father's mansion.
