To Diaz Family: A note to let you know that I am saddened to hear the Joe passed. I knew Joe back in the old days (as we call them now) at the courthouse and he worked in Judge Barlows Court as his bailiff. He was a true gentleman and always kept us laughing and always with that smile on his face and of course those rosy cheeks. Know that he was truly a wonderful man and a pilar in this community. He will be missed. ROSE GARCIA (Former Court Coordinator in the 226th District Court)

Lin and Diaz Family,
My husband, Antonio Martinez (and his brother Richard) grew up with Joseph in the same neighborhood. The familys were the Diaz's, (Joe & Margaret), the Martinez's (Juan & Soledad), Hinojosa's (Thomas & Antonella) and the Reyna's (Frank & Minnia). I am from the Hinojosa Family (Yolanda) and the kids from the neighborhood all had nicknames, Joseph was called "Bada". I lost my father "Big John" on Easter Sunday and my sister (Eva) and I thought of Bada for the police escort but did not know how to contact him. Our prayers are with you and may each of you hold the memories of a wonderful man with a big heart. God bless you and the family.

Joe and Lin have been friends of our family for many years. In fact, almost 25 years ago, he honored our family by escorting our Mother, Marge Peterson, to Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery for internment. He was an honorable man and a public servant that will be sorely missed by us all. It was an honor to know him and be a part of his life for a short while. Lin and family we are praying for you and sending you our love.

April 25, 2010

I had the pleasure of working with Joe at NEISD P.D. Though my time working with him was brief; He always came to work with a pleasant disposition. I enjoyed his sense of humor and hearing of his past experiences. I consider myself fortunate to have had the pleasure of knowing him. I offer my sincerest condolences to his family and closest friends.

I had the opportunity to meet Officer Diaz about year ago. When my son David entered the law enforcement profession several years ago, Officer Diaz took him under his wing and became his mentor, and friend. My son always spoke highly of Officer Diaz. He left a lasting impression on this young police officer. The law enforcement community has lost a great public servant. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Diaz family during this difficult time.

Wife & Family: At this time of sadness we extend our deepest sympathy to all his family. We met as freshmen at Holy Cross H.S. and through the years continued that friendship...thank you Joe..you were a good man & will be missed..you're Home now!

I escorted with Joe many times over that past 15 years or so and also knew him from his civilian employment in fleet management at SAPD. Joe always had a kind word and a great smile. His career as a Law Enforcement Officer afforded him opportunity to work in varied enforcement specialities and therefore meet many LEO's throughout Bexar County and San Antonio. He is greatly missed and was a "Good Guy" who was taken far too soon. Rest in Peace Joe. Our deepest condolences to the Diaz family.

I met Joe nearly 30 years ago when he was the Bailiff for State District Judge Jim Barlow and I was one of Judge Barlow's prosecutors. He was always a pleasure to work with and he kept us safe in a courthouse that had serious security problems in those days. He was a consummate professional. As a prosecutor, I had the pleasure of working with Joe in the prosecution of several cases investigated by Joe after he joined the Southern Pacific RR. These cases involved theft rings victimizing the RR. Joe's investigative skills were exceptional and because of his hard work we were able to take these criminals down in cases involving losses in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Everyone needs to know that Joe made a difference! This is a terrible loss to the community and to his family. I will pray for Joe and all who share this loss with his family.

Lin and Joe have been our friends for over 30 years. Through good times and hardships we could always depend on them to be there in spirit and in person. It mattered not if we lived miles away in Florida or Alabama or Georgia, we still kept in touch and shared life's important moments and more than a few vacations. It is with a heavy heart we have to say good-bye to Joe, there was so much more we all needed to do and say. Joe was a wonder, he never seemed to age, still Joe, year after year. Always a smile, a laugh and a genuine hug for us, telling us he missed us and was really glad to see us again. We never tired of his company and always looked forward to our Birthday dinners and special family occasions. Lin and Joe are a part of our family. We celebrated kids, and graduations and weddings and christenings and grandkids and all those little moments that you wish you could get back again. Joe is part of our life, a best part and we grieve with Lin. We also celebrate Joe's life, know he is in a good place and we thank our Lord we had the honor to count him as a friend.
