Kenneth Ladensohn Obituary

Kenneth Roland Ladensohn, 78, passed away at home Monday afternoon, February 25, 2002. He was born June 20, 1923 in Chilicothe, Missouri to Sam and Lucile Ladensohn and grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Ken earned an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated as a second lieutenant with a B.S. in civil engineering in 1945. On graduation day, Ken married Jean Katz, whom he had met in San Antonio the summer of 1942. During the next nine years, they moved 14 times to Army assignments in Germany, Utah, Texas, Georgia, New Mexico and California, where Ken earned a M.S. in meteorology from U.C.L.A. In 1954, he and Jean moved with their three children to San Antonio, where Ken joined his in-laws at Katz Oil Company. He co-founded KLN Steel Products Company, a manufacturer of institutional furniture, in 1964, serving as president from its inception until 1991, then as chairman and CEO until his death. Ken was active in many community organizations, serving as president of Golden Manor Jewish Home for the Aged, and Any Baby Can of San Antonio. Ken loved music, hunting, fishing, traveling and snorkeling, but his greatest passion was golf. He loved the game, the varied courses, the jokes and most of all, the great friends he made. Ken is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Katz Ladensohn, their children, Sydney L. Stern of New York City, AnnDee. L. Steidel and David Ladensohn; grandchildren Ken Stern of Brooklyn, NY, Eliza Ladensohn of Los Angeles, Toby Stern of Philadelphia and Jane Steidel; children-in-law Jon Stern, Jim Steidel and Claudia Ladensohn; and his sister, Phyllis Schoener. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Graham Ladensohn. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Any Baby Can, 217 Howard St., San Antonio 78212 or the charity of your choice.
