Larry Raymond Gawlik
October 27, 1947 - December 21, 2024
Larry Raymond Gawlik, 77, of Bulverde, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born on October 26, 1947, in Biloxi, Mississippi, to Roman and Irma (Urbanczyk) Gawlik. As the eldest of nine siblings, Larry was a guiding presence in his family. His surviving siblings include Linda, Edward, Dennis, Debbie, Mark, and Karen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Arlene and Mikey.
Larry proudly served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1968. During his naval service, he developed a deep sense of duty and patriotism. However, exposure to asbestos during this time contributed to his 17-month battle with gastric cancer, a courageous fight that ultimately claimed his life.
A dedicated student and lifelong learner, Larry graduated with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from The University of Florida in 1973. He later earned an MBA from The University of Texas in 1991. A proud Gator and Longhorn, Larry treasured the friendships and experiences from both institutions and remained a passionate supporter of their traditions.
Larry began his professional career in the public utility sector, where he worked tirelessly to improve energy infrastructure and systems. Later, he transitioned into consultancy, lending his expertise to numerous organizations. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Resource Management International (RMI), a successful business venture that reflected his innovative thinking and commitment to excellence. Larry's business ventures also allowed him to travel extensively, visiting many countries around the world, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region and the Caribbean, where he developed lifelong friendships and a deep appreciation for diverse cultures.
On December 9, 1968, Larry married the love of his life, Wanda Marlene (Fuquay). Together, they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage, creating a loving home and a close-knit family. They were blessed with three children: Michelle Hancock (Will), Larry Gawlik II (Teri), and Rhonda Adams (Ryan). Larry's greatest joy came from his role as a grandfather to five cherished grandchildren: Larisa, Emily, William, Alyra, and Kaley.
Larry will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his kindness, and his ability to bring joy to everyone around him.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home at Sattler, Canyon Lake, TX. A funeral mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, at the main sanctuary of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Honey Creek. A gravesite service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Panna Maria, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Tunnel to Towers or The Fisher House, two organizations that reflect Larry's values and dedication to helping others.
Larry's family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. His legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
