Marilyn McDermott Obituary

Marilyn McDermott passed gently on July 14, 2025 at home in Sandia Park, NM. A hospice nurse herself for 22 years with Englewood Hospital, Marilyn died receiving the same compassionate care that she gave to so many others. She was born on January 28, 1954 in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of Francis McDermott and Ruth Ness McDermott.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Tim Murphy of Sandia Park, her stepson Daniel Murphy (Holly) of Snoqualmie, WA and Patrick Murphy of Tampa, Fla., her niece, Dava Morefield of Oceanside Ca (Thomas) and her Grandnephew Weston Morefield and her nephew Kyle McDermott of Hackensack NJ. She is further survived by her brother Robert (Sherri Lynn) of Bradenton Fla, her nephew Derek of Dunnellon, Fla, her nieces Devin of Bradenton and Danae Manning of Colorado Springs (Michael). She followed the doings of her spread out family closely with loving interest.

She is predeceased by her brothers Mark and David. Marilyn always supported her family in difficult times.

Marilyn loved her many animals, especially her retired racing Greyhounds. She enjoyed the varied wildlife of central New Mexico during many hikes in the Sandias.

An avid reader, Marilyn met her librarian husband in the Ramapo College Library in 1997. She read widely with particular interest in theology, philosophy and psychology.

Marilyn loved watching her local PBS station. In lieu of flowers she would appreciate a donation in her name to any PBS station.
