Mary Singleton Obituary

SINGLETON
Mary Lucille Sampson Singleton was born on September 6, 1917 in Bokoshe, OK, and died on November 18, 2010 in San Antonio, TX. She spent her early life in Fort Smith and El Dorado, AR, and moved to San Antonio in 1946. Mary was a member of Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church for over 60 years and was elected to be one of the first female Elders in the Presbyterian Church in Texas. She was active in several organizations, including Friends of Hospice San Antonio. Mary worked for several years at USAA, both at the Broadway and current locations. She also achieved a reputation as an excellent cook, often giving cooking classes and being featured in newspaper articles, after having managed the kitchen for her son-in-law's catering organization, Don Strange of Texas. Mary was an avid bridge player, casino patron and San Antonio Spurs fan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ben A. Singleton, Sr.; a daughter, Mary Ann Singleton and her son-in-law, Don Strange. Mary is survived by her children, Frances Strange of San Antonio, Nancy (Richard) Tarrillion of San Antonio and Ben (Barbara) Singleton, Jr. of Fair Oaks Ranch; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 beginning at noon to spread her ashes at Don Strange Ranch.

I am so sorry for your loss of such a special lady, mom,and grandmother. I think we all thought she was invincible. She was always so upbeat, and pleasant. Her gracious smile will always be remembered. Love to the whole family.

As grandmother to my children and former mother-in-law to me, Mary (Gaga) Singleton was truly one of the world's special people. She was always upbeat and loved life and all those who shared hers. She will truly be missed.
