Michael Gary O'Neill passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 74.
He was born on January 11, 1948 to Belton O'Neill and Evelyn Burkhardt O'Neill in San Antonio, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Diana Michelle O'Neill McKee.
He is survived by his devoted wife of over 43 years, Linda Schwanke O'Neill, daughter, Tiffany O'Neill Huff and her husband, Aaron Huff, son, Michael O. O'Neill, and grandson, Levi Huff.
Mike graduated from John Marshall High School in San Antonio, TX in 1966. He lettered in football there and received a football scholarship to Cameron State College in Oklahoma. After 2 years there, he transferred to Texas State University and played football there. He also served 4 years in the Army Reserves.
In 1969, Mike joined the San Antonio Fire Department and devoted the next 32 years and 11 months to the career he loved.
On July 29, 1978, he married his wife, Linda Schwanke O'Neill. Two years later, they started a family with the birth of their daughter and then a son.
Mike was an affectionate, loving husband, dad, and PawPaw. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially outdoors. Medina Lake held a lot of special memories for Mike, including times at the cabin, fun on the Medina Queen party barge, taking his jet boat out full throttle across the lake, water skiing, and fishing for bass and catfish. He also loved hunting birds and deer, snow skiing, trips to the beach and watching the Dallas Cowboys NFL team.
The family would like to thank Paulina Eneix for the special care she gave Mike the last week of his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Mike at 11:30am on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at the San Antonio Firefighters' Banquet Hall, 8925 IH-10 Frontage Rd., San Antonio, TX.

Just happy memories of serving with Mike at sta. 34 during the 80's. Always a quiet unassuming guy ready to laugh at any joke. Deepest sorrow on his passing but immense happiness on knowing him and serving with him. May he rest in peace.

Seems like yesterday Mike, Donnie Oneill and I were working at a brand new just opened Firehouse #32 on Babcock and Wurzbach Rd. That station is closed and fenced off now. We used to lift weights in an area above the station office and boy was he capable. Always a quiet and great co-worker. Will miss him.
