On July 9, 2017, Our Gamma, Myrtle Elizabeth Cook Shafer beloved wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma, sister and aunt decided it was time to go home. She battled bravely the awful disease known as Alzheimer's for 12 years. Myrtle was born in Possumhollar, Tx, She is the daughter of George Wesley and Florence Cook of Melvin, Tx. In 1940, Myrtle married the love of her life Louie Ray Shafer. They had one daughter Vera Marie. Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, and 3 brothers Raymond (Marie), Walter and George Edward (Verna). She is survived by her Son-In-Law John Powers, Granddaughters Paula (Thomas) Alexander and Penny Powers, Great Grandson Jonathan, Sister Nola Sexton, Nephew/Son Tony Wayne (Deborah) Henrich, a host of special nephews, nieces, and other extend family members. Myrtle was best known for her beautiful smile, blue eyes and as chief cook and bottle washer. Visitors to her home never left hungry and felt like family.

Services for Gamma will be a viewing on July 14, at the Heritage Funeral Home, Brady, Texas from 7 to 9pm. Funeral will be on her birthday Saturday, July 15 at 2pm Heritage Funeral Home by pastor Gary Sutton. - with Bettie Garner
