Nathaniel Breckenridge Obituary

January 4, 1934 - January 3, 2018
Nathaniel D Breckenridge - husband, father, Papa, was one of eight children born to Robert and Pellie Breckenridge on January 4th, 1934 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
His childhood and early years produced many scholastic achievements, including being accepted to Hampton University at 15. In 1954, after meeting and marrying the love of his life, Mabel Martin, he committed to serving his country in the United States Air Force. In 1974, after serving 20 years in various capacities, including work as a military police officer, he retired and began working civil service at Kelly Air Force Base. Papa, as many have affectionately called him, was talented, loyal, kind, forgiving, intelligent, hilariously funny, and loving. His pride and joy was his family, and in turn, he was theirs.
On November 1, 2017, he and Mabel Breckenridge celebrated 63 years of marriage; just as much in love as they were in 1954.

Papa transitioned to Heaven on January 3, 2018, leaving a living legacy which includes his wife, one brother, one sister, four children, fourteen grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.

His life will be celebrated January 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace First Baptist Church.

I only knew TSgt Breckenridge while he was our basic training instructor from June 16, 1969 through July 31, 1969. I remember him as compassionate and an all around good human being. He was not like other TI's who yelled all the time. He EARNED your respect from his actions. I was so glad that I had such a great man as my TI.

During my basic training, I remember Sgt Breckenridge being very fair. He treated us like people and always respected us. He was like the stern but fair father. Compared to some of the TIs friends of mine had, Sgt Breckenridge was great. He made basic training very tolerable. I will always remember him fondly.

SSgt Breckenridge was my TI Nov 67-Jan68. He was such a decent man. We all respected him. During the Bowl games he brought in a small b/w TV for us to watch. His wife baked cookies for all of us. Rest In Peace, Sir.

Nate was my Training Instructor at Lackland AFB in Nov 1967 - Jan 1968. So sorry we lost touch with each other. He will be sorely missed.

SSgt was my Training Instructor at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas from June 16, 1969 to July 31, 1969. I remember him as a great instructor. When the 1st man walked on the moon, he brought a small 13" TV into the barracks so we could watch that historic moment.
