Peter Hollimon Obituary

Peter Wilson Hollimon, M.D., 72, entered the kingdom of heaven on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Born in Bryan, Texas, on August 7, 1950, to Jack Charles and Dorothy Wilson Hollimon, Peter was raised in San Antonio, Texas. After graduation from Alamo Heights High School, Peter attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he met the love of his life Kay Leizear. Peter and Kay were married July 6, 1973, and moved to San Antonio, where he graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center in 1976.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 33 years, Kay. He is survived by his brother, J. Charles Hollimon II and wife Nancy, his wife Dr. Mary Hastings Arno Hollimon, his daughters, Meecia Hollimon Little and husband Stephen, Courtney Hollimon Brittain and husband Keith, and Alissa Hollimon Rosebrough and husband Asher. He is also survived by his step-children Dr. Stephanie Bowen, Tad Bowen, Andrew Arno and Dr. Elizabeth Arno Shivone, as well as his grandchildren Wilson, Burke and Kate Little, Henry and Peter Brittain, and Annie Rosebrough, and his step-grandchildren Patrick and Leo Bowen, Zachary and Hannah Shaeffer, Marius and Piper Arno, Mary, Caroline, Michael, Christopher and Catherine Shivone, as well as many other beloved nieces and nephews.

Known as a well-respected surgeon for more than 42 years, he was always backed up by his amazing assistant, Linda Riley. Ready to serve whenever he was called upon, he was a member of numerous medical clubs and organizations, including Chief of Staff at Northeast Baptist Hospital, the Aust Medical Society, the Texas Cavaliers, Order of the Alamo, and the German Club. It was his medical career that brought him together with the second love of his life, Mary. Married in February of 2014, together they enjoyed travelling, medical mission work in Guatemala, and spending time with friends and family.
Affectionately known as "Doc", he was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, especially with all the grandchildren. He was never happier than when he was at his ranch surrounded by his dogs, working on a new project, riding in a round-up, or attending to his cattle and horses. Always ready for the next adventure, he brought stories, laughter, and jokes to any situation. As a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church, Doc practiced his faith in all aspects of his life.

My deepest sympathy for the Hollimon Family...
Dr. Hollimon literally saved my life 6 years ago after performing an appendectomy on me. While anxiously waiting 34 days to be discharged from N.E. Baptist he was very attentative and had exceptional bedside manner. I thank the Lord for Dr. Peter Hollimon being the surgeon on duty the day I was admitted. Once I saw his picture on the wall I knew I was in great hands.
Rest In Peace. Once again, My deepest condolences.......

Dearest Mary and family, My deepest regrets for your loss, but it is definitely a gain for Heaven. You have wonderful memories to hold on to and be Blessed with. I remember how he would pray with his patients before their surgery. May you all have peace and comfort with each other during this time of healing. With love, Sandy and Addison Taylor.

Pete,Chuck, and I,(Bob Mabe) grew up together and shared many adventures together with our dads. When i was shot while deer hunting in South Texas my family immediately called Pete to operate on me.After surgery and other procedures, i pulled through and was forever grateful to DOC. I thought about him often and was able to see him at his mom's funeral in March. He was always quick to laugh and was always personable.I owe him my life and I will always have a special place in my heart for Pete

Dr. Hollimon performed surgery on me years ago, and I had the utmost respect for him. I found him to be a very kind, caring and gentle doctor. He's earned his right of passage through the gates of Heaven. Rest in peace, Dr. Hollimon. You will be missed by many.

In addition to being an excellent surgeon, Dr. Hollimon was a caring
and kind person. He was selfless in serving his patients. I am sad to
hear that he has passed away. However, I know he is with his Saviour
Jesus. Joan Petri
