Phillip Bush Obituary

JULY 18, 1930 - JUNE 27, 2015
Phillip Carl Bush, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Saviour on June 27, 2015. Carl was born on July 18, 1930 in Victoria, Texas to Phillip Carl Bush and Viola Forster Bush. He attended grade school in Victoria before moving to Aransas Pass, Texas. He graduated as Salutatorian in 1947.

Carl served in the US Army from 1951 - 1953, mostly at Fort Polk, LA.

He married Frances Tolbert in 1953 and they had one son, Phillip Carl Bush III. Frances and the baby were killed in a car accident in 1956.

Carl married Thelma JoAn Ballard on November 2, 1957 in Driscoll, TX. Their first son Brian C. Bush was stillborn September 5, 1959. Son Carl Ray was born on September 8, 1964. Ann Marie joined the family January 31, 1970.

Carl had a variety of occupations until 1956 when he was employed by the US Army Reserves. At the same time he joined the active Army Reserves. He became Shop Foreman for the Reserves and was responsible for all Reserve Equipment from Corpus Christi to Brownsville to McAllen to Laredo. Carl retired from the Reserves as a CWO and Civil Service in 1980. He was then employed at Thurman Fondren Glass Company for 12 years until he completely retired in 1992.

Carl faithfully served his Lord at Gardendale Baptist Church as Sunday School teacher, Chairman of Ushers, Chairman of Building & Grounds Committee and as a Deacon.

Carl and JoAn moved to Floresville in 2000. They were members of First Baptist Church.

Carl entered Frank M. Tejeda Texas Veterans Nursing home in November 2014. He passed away there June 27th after a long battle with strokes.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his two sisters, Joyce Matthews and Rita Oglethorpe; his brother-in-law Mike Oglethorpe; his first wife; and two sons.

He leaves behind his wife of 57 years; son Carl R. Bush, wife Kyra; daughter Ann Marie Yohn, husband Ed; five beautiful granddaughters, Chelsea, Madison, Justine, Mallory, and Mackenzie; as well as many other family members and friends.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday, followed by the Funeral service at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Vinyard Funeral Home, Floresville. Interment will follow at 1:45 P.M. Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
