Richard Ybanez Obituary

YBANEZ
Richard M. Ybanez Jr., while surrounded by his family and friends, passed away peacefully into the next world on April 29th, 2014. Born on April 13,1953 in San Antonio, TX, a graduate of South San High School Class of 1971. Richard served in the US Air Force from 1971 through 1975, where he entertained the troops as a DJ on the Malmstrom AFB Radio Station in Montana . He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cal State in San Bernadino, CA in 1985. He was an accomplished self-taught, multi-instrumentalist, lyricist,songwriter,photographer,world traveler and artist. His passion for the arts also included drumming for local bands throughout the years, hosting "Smooth Jazz,'' on KRTU and serving as past president of the San Antonio Visual Artist Association. He is survived by his parents, Richard Sr. and Irene Ybanez, brothers, Robert (Thomasa), Roger (Jenny), sisters Roxanne (Bobby),Rosemary Livar (Robert), numerous nieces and nephews and close family friend, Shirlene Harris. Richard was employed by the Trinity University Library and was both well loved and respected by all his co-workers.
The May 3rd Memorial Services consisted of a Rosary followed by a Mass at The Discalced Carmelite Monastery in San Antonio. Richard's last request was for a Celebration of Life. Family and friends gathered at his sister's home in Atascosa, TX for fellowship throughout the evening. In keeping with tradition, family and friends brought food and drinks for all to share during the memorial service displaying Richard's works of art and musical videos .
