Robert Kilby Obituary

Robert Kilby
Robert (Robb) James Kilby passed away in Larkspur, California, near San Francisco, on Dec. 25, 2025, at the age of 75. He had lived in California for 46 years.
Born in New Haven, Conn., he spent his early years in San Antonio as part of an Air Force family. He also lived abroad when his father was stationed in Japan, Turkey and Germany.
Robb graduated from Antonian High School in San Antonio in 1969 and from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in 1974 with a B.B.A. in finance. He began working in San Antonio as an underwriter for Aetna Life and Casualty. He left Texas to further his career in insurance. Robb also worked in software sales in the technology industry with IBM and Policy Management Systems Corp. After retiring, he operated a property restoration company in California for six years. He then worked part time in the men's department at a local Nordstrom store - a job he loved.
He and Gail, his wife of 40 years, also traveled widely. They enjoyed three-month stays in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.
Robb was an avid bicyclist, scuba diver, tennis player and skier. He and a high school friend often took ski trips with the Austin Skiers. He loved vintage cars and visited automobile museums internationally. When his beloved Texas Tech Red Raiders were recently listed number four in national college football rankings, he was elated.
Robb was a most personable, talented and thoughtful person.
He is survived by his wife Gail, sisters Sally and Jan Kilby, brother John Kilby and his wife Shirley and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Lt. Col. Robert H. and Rosalie Kilby of San Antonio.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Feb. 11, 2026, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Belvedere Tiburon, CA. Donations in Robb's memory can be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind, 350 Los Ranchitos Rd., San Rafael, CA 94903.

I want to add a funny memory about what was probably the last time I saw Bobby Kilby in San Antonio. We were both in our early 20's. I was riding my bicycle when a car full of young men pulled up alongside of me. They started catcalling at me, which made me very uncomfortable. But I looked over at them and spotted Bobby in the back seat of the car. I called him by name, asking him how he was doing and said it was good to see him. He was obviously embarrassed at his friends' naughty behavior and put his head down. The car sped off, leaving me in peace. I laughed to myself.

The Kilby family used to live across the street from my family when Robb (or as I knew him, Bobby) were both in high school in San Antonio. We graduated the same year. My sincerest condolences to Robb's family, but I am pleased to read that he went on to have a great life after leaving San Antonio.

I graduated with Robb as well from Antonian High School in 1969 and Texas Tech in 1973. I didn´t know Robb was at Tech until I ran into him at a fraternity party. We stayed in touch while at Tech and both share our love for Antonian and Tech. I hadn´t seen Robb for a number of years until about 2 -3 years ago at a gathering in SA. I can´t speak for other classes but the 1969 class shares a special brotherhood. RIP Robb

I served on the Mill Valley Arts Commission w/Rob. We coordinated the Concerts in the Plaza for a number of years. Rob was wonderful to work with. We also both worked for Nordstrom in the Men´s Dept. His work with Guide Dogs for the Blind was exemplary. Rob will be missed by the community.
