Dear Mrs. Terry and Family:
Please accept my belated heartfelt condolences in the death of your beloved husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, and my long-time ophthalmologist-friend.
May Dr. Terry rest in peace and may God comfort and console all of you, and give you the strength and courage to carry on.
My wife, Eileen, and I got to know Dr. Terry when we became patients of his after he hired our daughter, Anna Adams Wellman, as an ophthalmolic technician 33 years ago. He had the patience to help Anna learn the duties of a technician with on-the-job training.
Anna is still working there, as the most senior employee in the office. She has often expressed her gratitude for having the opportunity to work with and for Dr. Terry. She has had only good things to say about him.
I always looked forward to seeing Dr. Terry on my regular eye appointments all those years. He was always friendly and kind...thorough in examining my eyes, explaining what he was doing and why.
I had cataract surgery on both eyes 20 years ago, one week apart. After I was prepared for surgery on the first eye and lying on the operating table, Dr. Terry caught me by surprise when he said: "Let's hold hands and each of us say a silent prayer." So we did.
The next week when I was ready for surgery on the second eye, he said the same thing. Instead, as we joined hands, I said I'd like to pray out loud. He said "Okay."
In my prayer, I thanked God for Dr. Terry, praising his knowledge, experience and his skills as a doctor... thanking Dr. Terry for being a special surgeon and a fine person.
When I was finished praying, I noticed he had tears in his eyes. He said, "No one has ever prayed like that with me before." And he thanked me.
That's the kind of a special surgeon and the kind of a fine person he was!
May all of the wonderful things about Dr. Terry live on in your hearts. The Lord bless y'all.
Peace and prayers,
Cornelius "Doc" Adams
