Bert Botkin Obituary

Bert Draper Botkin VISTA -- Bert Draper Botkin passed away Monday, April 11, 2011. He was born March 27, 1916 in La Junta, Colo., to Bert G. Botkin and Edith Katherine Draper. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; nephew, Clifford Cameron (Elizabeth); niece, Katherine Cira (Joe); and cousins, Russell Ellis and Tommy Ellis. His sister, Elizabeth Cameron, is deceased. Bert moved to Los Angeles at the age of 14, graduated from Beverly Hills High School and attended Santa Monica College. He worked for Janess Investment Company in Westwood, then North American Aviation where he met his future wife, Margaret M. "Peggy" Moran. He enlisted in the Navy Air Corps and was last stationed in Miami, Florida where he married Peggy in 1945. They returned to Los Angeles where he returned to North American Aviation, which became Rockwell International. At the age of 62, he retired and moved to San Marcos. There he was very active in the good works of his church and the Knights of Columbus. In 1985, he moved to Shadowridge in Vista where he and Peggy enjoyed golf and bridge. The loved traveling and visited many countries. He was a loving, steadfast husband and loyal to family and friends. He was loved by all who knew him. The funeral will be at 10 a.m., today, Tuesday, April 19 at the Church of St. Thomas More in Oceanside. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m., at the Old Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery. Oceanside.
