Carlos A. Hernandez

HERNANDEZ, CARLOS A. Carlos A. Hernandez lost his battle to leukemia on April 13, 2008, at the age of 43, after battling the disease for 18 years. Carlos was born on December 5, 1964, in Chula Vista, California. He spent his childhood growing up in La Mesa where he developed lifelong relationships with his grade school friends. He graduated from Helix High School in 1983. After spending a couple of years working in fast food Carlos was given the opportunity to work in underground construction. In 1989, he married the love of his life, Lisa. In December, 1990, Carlos was diagnosed with Leukemia. Due to his illness Carlos stopped working and soon became a stay at home dad after the birth of their son Anthony in January, 1991, and their daughter, Alyssa, in February, 1994. In 1998, Carlos and Lisa moved to Temecula where they could raise their two children in a slower paced environment. Carlos was a very devoted father who was always involved with his kids and supported them through all of their years with Pop Warner football and cheer. More than anything he loved watching his son play football and telling inside jokes with his daughter (who has his personality traits). After spending several years on experimental drugs, Carlos' body was no longer responding to the treatments. After discussing his deteriorating health with his doctors and his family, Carlos made the decision to come home from the hospital to spend as much time as he could with his family and friends. He lost his battle at home, surrounded by his loving family, on April 13, 2008. He is preceded in death by his father, Carlos O. Hernandez. He is survived by his wife Lisa and their two children Anthony and Alyssa, his mother Eleanor Hernandez, his father and mother-in-law, Jack and Fran Dimmitt, of WA, his sister-in-law and husband, Vicki and Tommy Hayden (and three children) of WA, his brother-in-law, Jack Dimmit of WA, and his "Uncle Frank" and wife Jackie and family of Santa Ana. Lisa and her children would like to thank all of his friends (from CA to WA) for the incredible support they have given from day one and the many prayers that they have said over the years. Thank you for all of the hospital trips you have made and the meals you have provided! You were an unbelievable support system to Carlos and he loved all of you from the bottom of his heart! The Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25th, at the Existence Church, 7686 Miramar Road.
