Carlos Riego De Dios Linayao

Carlos Linayao Obituary

LINAYAO, CARLOS RIEGO DE DIOS Carlos Riego de Dios Linayao, 83, much loved Family Man, Community Leader and USN Veteran passed away in his home July 4, 2006. USN Veteran - He retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 30 years of distinguished service in the United States Navy. He survived WW II, Korea and Vietnam. Community Leader - Although active in many organizations, his service in the Cavite Association of Southern California, Inc. (CASCI) stands out. As former President and Board member, CASCI is privileged to be the only Filipino San Diego based organization affiliated with the Sister Cities International Program. He supports the arts and promotes Philippine culture as a former Board President of the Samahan Filipino American Arts and Education Center. His daughters performed with the dance company and rondalla; currently his granddaughters are performing with the company. He was instrumental in organizing the "1946 and Earlier Filipino Navy Enlistees" and the Pacific Memorial Freedom Foundation (PFMM). This group of Filipino-American veterans returned to the Philippines to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Philippines. Many of the PFMM were former guerilla fighters during those dark days of brutal Japanese occupation before joining the U.S. Navy. He was innovative in creating the Flag Raising Ceremony held on the actual day (June 12th) and time (4:47 p.m.) to be historically accurate in commemorating Philippine Independence Day. The continuing ceremony is held on his privately-owned property with the partnership of CASCI and the, Philippine Independent Catholic Church. Family Man - His devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren is self evident. He broadens that concept of family to include the local community and the countries of his birthplace and allegiance. He "practices what he preaches" - that family and community service are what you do; that love, honor, duty and faith are not just words but the way to live. He is survived by his wife Fe, nine children, 21 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He will be missed by many people for many things, notably his patriotic spirit, lively personality and joke-telling. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 10th at Greenwood Memorial Park in the Garden Chapel.Viewing will also be held there Saturday and Sunday July 8th and 9th from 1 to 9 p.m.Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com

Family Linayao, accept my deepest condolences. I met Mr. Linayao when I was a teenager, my parents were his tenants for a long time until my dad was able to get his own home. Mr. Linayao was very kind and caring! We are a big family and we moved a lot because he was always trying to get us into a bigger house. We are very thankful. I also remember that he always wanted the most beautiful roses(in a plant)to take home to his wife. He always be remembered by the Lopez family!
God bless you!

Lolo,
I miss living next door and hearing your sneezes from inside my house. I loved the way you said my name…Shedda! I think about what you and lola have created. The only thing I have known is a big, wild family and I wouldn't have it any other way. And to think, it started and continued with the love between my lola and lola.

Mrs. Linayao & Family,

Mr. Linayao was a very good man. Please accept the heartfelt condolences of all of us at Haro Supply Co. for your loss.

We considered Mr. Linayao family. He brightened our day every day he came in, mostly smiling, mostly joking, mostly taking the time no matter how busy he was to share part of our day.

He was a sage and caring man; a man who was respected. There was no one else so full of life than he. Mr. Linayao wil be greatly missed, and always, always fondly remembered.

Our most sincere respects to you and your children.

I do not know how to express the depth of our saddness at learning of Manong Carlos' passing. We have lost such a wonderful man; he leaves a vacancy on this earth that will never fully be filled. Carlos Riego de Dios -- an apt name for a man who was open and welcoming to other people; gave of himself willingly, loved and respected his family -- especially his Fe; was humble, and lived his faith as truly as he could.

Manong's adept mind was always ready with a quip. He loved to teach you lessons to live by; he taught you through the never ending well of stories he would carefully relate for you. And, his jokes -- his wisdom would go down smoothly, like a sweetened tonic.

I can only imagine that Manong Carlos upon entering heaven had a story ready to tell my mother, Raquel, before she could tell him her joke.

The last family gathering that I saw him was last year's Father's Day. When my sister and I walked through the door, both Auntie Fe and he started to weep. I realized at that moment that we held a special place in their hearts as they do ours.

Please know, that we love you and are praying for you. Our love and thoughts to Auntie Fe and the Family.

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE LINAYAO FAMILY ON THE LOSS OF KUYA CARLOS.

Ruthie Karman- Murray

July 8, 2006

Today I was reading the newspaper and saw Mr. Linayao's shining smile in the obituraries and I instantly knew he had gone to meet the Lord. I can't tell you how many fond memories rushed through my head back to l974 as a teenager when I met him for the first time. His daughter, Lucy, is a very special friend of mine. When I first went to his home he greeted me with a stern look because I had a car and I wanted to take Lucy somewhere. After he got to know me, he always joked with me and his entire family treated me as "one of their own." I will always remember this man and the family values he instilled. As a grown woman, about to become a grandmother myself, I fondly think of Mr. Linayao and what he stood for. And I can only hope, that I too, will be able to impart to my own grandchild, the same, wisdom, love of life, and the importance of treating others the way they wish to be treated, as I learned from spending so much time at the Linayao house back in the l970's. God bless this wonderful family.

Love always,

Ruthie "Karman" Murray
