Dr. Charles Williams Hatch

Charles Hatch Obituary

HATCH DR. CHARLES WILLIAMS Charles Hatch passed away on Sunday, August 29, from complications caused by cancer. He was 86 years old. His wife of 43 years, Colleen and their children David Hatch, Jeff Hatch, Kim Stagg, Jim Emslie and Holly Novroski survive him. In addition, they have five grandchildren: Erik Egan, Jason Stagg, Allison Emslie, Michael Emslie and Sarah Novroski. For the past 20 years, he and Colleen were active RV residents and spent most of the summers over the past 15 years in Sequim, Washington. Dr. Hatch was a long time San Diego resident, having maintained a dental practice in Pacific Beach for nearly 30 years. He lived on Mt. Soledad in La Jolla for many of those years. He and Colleen were avid fishermen and was a life member of the Mission Bay Yacht Club, where he and his friends and family brought home plenty of marlin, albacore and other prizes from the sea over the years aboard their boat, the Full House. Dr. Hatch was born in Akron, Ohio and attended Ohio State University, where he received his undergraduate degree and his dental degree. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity at OSU. Immediately after graduating, he joined the U.S. Navy and was attached to the Marine Corps, 5th Division. He saw active duty in the Iwo Jima campaign and joined the occupying forces in Japan. After his honorable discharge from the Marines, he set up his first dental practice in Indio. He became active in the community as a member of the Cochella Valley Sheriff's Posse, the first president of the Wild Game Propagation Club and a member of the Charter Board of the Cochella Valley Recreation District. He was also an active pilot in private aviation. In 1955, he moved to San Diego and bought a house in Mission Beach, where his children went to Mission Beach Elementary School. He continued his active life as a hunter, fisherman and yachtsman in the Mission Bay Yacht Club and was president of San Diego Marlin Club in 1974. Charles Hatch lived his life to the fullest and will fondly be remembered by family, friends and former patients. The family will have a private service and wish any donations be sent to the American Cancer Society in his name. Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com

My mother, Jo Ann Jackson, worked for Dr. Hatch for many years. We will always have fond memories of Christmas Eve at his house and the wonderful Ciappino he used to make. I remember getting seasick on the Full House when I was very young. Our thoughts are with you.

Dear Coleen, you are such a dear. You were such a support to me when Herb passed away. Charles was the Patchel's dentist, and that was one of the main reasons we joined the Yacht Club. Herbie remembered the many times he went to Dr. Hatch's office! With much love, Judy Patcel

We were so sorry to hear of your loss. Dr. Hatch was our dentist when our kids were little (they are now 36 and 32) and he was such a kind man. My boys were never afraid to go in and see him. We have missed him since he retired. But it has been good seeing Kim in Dr. Hovey's office. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Kim. And also with all the family.
