Chris and I were buddies in junior high at Washington Middle School. We had such a great time together in band. I could always count on Chris to make me laugh. We both attended RBV high together but like so many, drifted our separate ways. Sadly, as a current 911 dispatcher for the Northern San Diego County, I was not only working the night the terrible accident occured but also handled the call. It was only days later that I discovered that accident involved Chris. My heart goes out to the family during the difficult time. Chris, you will be missed.

Chris was the best Surfer I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, knowing and becoming friends with during the Motion of the Ocean Surf Shop days. I still remember him pulling up in his Toyota Tacoma at the 1021 beach house like it was yesterday and asking if any of us were going out to surf. He will be truly missed, My thoughts and prayers go out to his Family.

Dear Steve,Tish,Natalie and Goody,
It is so difficult to find the right words to express our sorrow for your loss of Chris. Such an exceptional human being and from such an exceptional family. Rod (coach Rod), spoke often about Chris back in the days when he was Chris's coach. Chris was definitely one of the kids that really made Rods job fun and rewarding. Chris always had a smile and great attitude! Chris came from one heck of a great family and our hearts and our thoughts & prayers are with all of the Pompa family. We keep sitting here in disbelief. We will cherish our memories of Chris and smile whenever we think of him. We will never forget the wonderful, funny, charming, handsome and kind person he was and we are grateful to have known him and your family!! All our love,
The Johnston gang....

To the Pompa family,
Your son was an inspiration to us all. He made us all better by just knowing him. When in his presence all you could do is smile. I show his picture to my family and friends and they look at him, not even knowing him and see he was beautiful. I talk about how he was a great friend, brother, son, and boyfriend. He never stopped living for a second. He touched so many people’s lives that it just shows credit to what great parents he has. Chris and your family will forever be in my heart and prayers.

Chris in heaven

I remember Chris spending the night at my Cherry Street apartment in Carlsbad with Jackson and my daughter Solana when they were all in high school. We laughed so hard tellilng jokes, one in particular singing out impressions of Fabio's "It's got to be butter" commercials ("butter me...I'm only 17"). That night, he was really excited to sleep so close to the beach to surf the next morning just feet away. I so greatly regret losing yet another young man (the other being Troy B. at 20) who was in my son's life with so much living ahead of him. My heart goes out to his parents and family. I know what it means to raise kids through those scary tough times as well as the good. We as parents just want them to grow up and live a successful long life. Chris,. please keep an eye on Jackson for me.

November 19, 2009

Christopher was a outstanding young man and I am truly sorry for your loss. I had the privilge of coaching Chris in soccer in 2002 for the Vista Storm. My prayers will be to your family to bring you peace at this time. I will always remember that smile he always had and the love of life that he shared with us all.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
