I remember meeting Dongxian when he taught about ion channels in the 1990's in the UCSD-Burnhman Institute Molecular Pathology Graduate Program. Students gravitated to his thoughtful, kind, and unassuming lecture style. His devotion to teaching and interest in students was so important to providing them an outstanding learning experience. His impact on students will continue on in their approaches to science and the way they teach their own students. He was a friend and colleague and certainly left us all far too soon.
