Hayes Anderson Obituary


Hayes L. Anderson, PhD, age 83, a 57-year resident of San Diego, CA died on August 17, 2023. He was born Sept. 6, 1939 in Logan, Utah to Carl and Alyce Anderson. He earned his BA in 1961 from Oregon State University, and a Master Degree and PhD in Film and Telecommunications from Michigan State University in 1966. Hayes joined the faculty of San Diego State University and taught in the Dept. of Telecommunications and Film. He became Chair of the Dept. in 1980. In 1993, he was appointed Associate Dean of the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts. He retired in 2001, after giving 35 years to the academic community of San Diego State University. After retirement, Hayes was a volunteer at the California Wolf Center in Julian, CA and served on the Board for several years. He also volunteered with the California Highway Patrol and shared many interesting experiences. Hayes was a member of the San Carlos United Methodist Church in San Diego and served in various capacities. Hayes is survived by his wife of 63 years Marilyn, son Kenneth (Sharon), daughter, Laura Anderson, grandson Ryder Anderson, sister Janis Johnson, and numerous nephews and nieces. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Hayes Anderson Endowment at SDSU or The CA Wolf Center, Julian CA.
