JOHN BLUMENSHEIN Obituary

BLUMENSHEIN, JOHN THOMAS John Blumenshein, 61, passed away in his sleep on November 14, 2011. John received a liver transplant two years ago due to liver cancer. Unfortunately, a different more aggressive cancer came back. John was able to say goodbye to his son Damon who flew in from New Zealand; his mother, Pauline, and his many friends. He was a AA rated beach volleyball player who played at Moonlight Beach in the '70s thru the '90s. He won various men's, mixed and master's beach volleyball tournaments. John always thought of others before himself. During his last days, he made the effort to sit up and smile for each family member and friend that came by. John is survived by his mother, his sister Chris his five brothers, Klaus, Costy, Steve, Don and Tom, his son Damon and two-year-old grandson, Finn. Please make donations in remembrance of John to the Donate Life San Diego and please register to donate your organs so that others may live.

John was a great sportsman and always a gentleman on and off the playing court. Moonlight Beach was his training ground in the 1970's and on Saturdays and Sundays you would see him there. I will miss the hours that we spent together talking and laughing.

My heart could not be any sadder than it is today. John was such a wonderful man with such spirit. This world, such as it is, has lost a very precious sole.

My prayers are with the family,

Gail Braun
