Julian Nicholas 'Nick' Cogan
February 1, 1947 - April 20, 2021
SAN DIEGO
Julian Nicholas "Nick" Cogan, 74, died on April 20, 2021, of cardiac arrest while hiking in Palm Springs. Though a failing heart took him from this world, his loving heart left a beacon of light for all who knew him. Nick was born in El Centro, CA, on February 1, 1947. He graduated from Central Union H. S. in 1965 and joined the Air Force in 1966, serving until 1970. He returned to San Diego and graduated from San Diego State University in 1974, with a B.S. in Physics. Nick worked as an electronics engineer at Cubic Corporation from 1980 until his death. He was a member of MENSA and the Model Aeronautics Club. He was also an avid photographer, hiker, and amateur sailor. He attended Community Bible Church in Mira Mesa and served in their AWANA Bible program for over 20 years. He was married to Bonni Schuler from 1972-1979, and they had one daughter, Dawna. He later married Mary Jo Gleber in 1984, and they had two daughters, Caitlin and Amanda. He will be remembered by all as a kind and gentle man with a witty sense of humor.Nick is survived by his loving wife, his three daughters and their partners, three grandchildren, Cora, Jackson, and Bradley, his brother Christopher and sister Jennifer. A memorial service is planned for June 2, 2021 at 11 am, at Sonrise Community Church in Santee, CA. His remains will be inurned in the Miramar National Cemetery.
