Mike was my boss at the Marshal's Office for one year until I retired. He always treated me as an equal. We became close friends with both Mike and Anita. Mike was an important part of my life and I will always remember him with great fondness.

Mike was truly a man that will never be forgotten. Kind and caring, loving and fun, He glowed with love, spirit, and integrity. I'll always remember our conversations, his willingness to listen to views different from his own and his acceptance of lifestyles that many his age have no time for or no desire to be around. Mike was a special man and he is missed by so many people. Rest in peace Mike and continue always to be Anita's personal Angel. We love you.

Dear Anita,
So sad to learn of your loss. It's been awhile since I hosted you and Mike at Del Mar Turf Club ~ he loved going and his glass of wine with a little ice. All the best and my love to your family: Rest In Peace to one of the best Peace Officers ever.

I too was one of the 10 he hired in 1978. I worked for him till he retired. We didn't always agree, but he was fair and I always respected that. Rest in Peace Mike.

On behalf of our mother, Mrs. Rayme Medina (Vicki) and family - we extend our condolences to the Sgobba Family. Our father, Rayme Medina, worked closely with Mr. Sgobba for 19 years that formed a beautiful and lasting friendship. Upon Mr. Sgobba's retirement – my father requested a memento to fondly remember him by. Mr. Sgobba went over and beyond in granting my father's wish and gave him his plaque “MARSHALL's OFFICE”. My father has passed on (12/2005) and this special plaque has held a special place in my father's former office. My mother would love to offer a final resting place in the Sgobba's home in memory of an outstanding Marshall and friend. She would love to hear from family who may be interested in this special plaque. Please reach us at 619/420-8480.
Your family is in our prayers. The Medina's

Chief Sgobba was one of my instructors in the mid 60's at the San Diego Police Academy. He was a very good and informative instructor who later would become my boss when I was a rookie cop. The new recruits today sorely miss him but they don't know it. He was that good.MY PRAYERS TO THE FAMILY AND ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT.

Although we were on the job at the same time, most of my memories are of us fishing Albacore together back in the 80's, good times and many laughs.

Great guy and will be missed by many.

Marshal Sgobba hired me in March of '78, 1 of 10 hired on that day. I was offered a job across the street one hour after the Marshal offered and stayed there for the next 22 years. I never regretted that decision.

I only had a couple of sessions in his office in the early years fortunately. He always knew the names of everyone and greeted you by name, no matter how low you were, even down in that basement.

So long Boss!

Mike and I worked together at SDPD for a number of years. His contributions to the department, Marshal's Office, employees from throughout the local criminal justice community, and the San Diego public are his family's to be proud of. My sincere condolences.

I was employed as a Deputy Marshal from 1964 - 1994. Mike promoted me twice, Sgt to Lt, Lt to Capt. Mike's leadership greatly contributed to the Department becoming a leading law enforcement agency in the USA. His memory will live with us forever here in the mountains of Montana.
