As I knew Mike as Monkey man as we called him, he was great to hang with growing up in the neighbor hood - the last time I ran into him was a few yrs ago - he was at a place where they were celebrating John's C life -- he will always be remember fondly as the monkey man

I loved this man! Truly some of the best times of my life were with the pood and you.he was a great friend, surfer and one of my life's hero's. This hurts so bad and just so unfair he had to battle such a horrible disease .he will always be surfing and fishing with us when ever we go and always in our hearts forever. He taught me all I know about fishing. We spent many ,many years traveling mex,and Costa Rica together ,and was truly the best person to camp with. With his skinny legs and knees and toes pointing inward he was so funny. But what a surfer,he just ripped with old school style.I took the Mexico picture above and was proud to know him and be his friend.he helped my friends kids fish even though he loved to fish.He was hands down the best fisherman I ever met,but was one of the greatest humans I ever met. When suzi was sick I saw how much he loved suzi and we should all be so lucky.they were made for each other.I will miss my throw back friend ,he was in every since of the word a true waterman.,father ,husband, friend and my hero.miss u so much,pood...gary

Dear Suszi,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and all of Mike's family. I have fond memories of Mike all the way back to Walt Whitman Elementary, then Einstein Junior High and onto Madison High School. He was a great guy and I am so happy that we all re-connected before our 40th class re-union. May you find peace in knowing that you and Mike had a wonderful life together and created so many great memories that will live in your heart forever.
Love and tight hugs, Linda (Jenkins) Velazquez-DeBoer

Thinking of you at this sad time and sending my love. I can't believe all this time has gone by since we were at Mark Twain Elementary together, swinging on the bars and not a care in the world. It seems like the blink of an eye now. I remember Mike as one of the nicest guys in high school, that was a long time ago, but I see from everyone's comments that he touched a lot of lives. Let those closest to you comfort you and know that all of your extended family are sending strength, and peace to you as you as you walk through this these long days.
Love, Jan Makinson Ferree
