Norman B. Sparks

1925 - 2014

Sparks, Norman B. 06/07/1925 ~ 09/24/2014 LA MESA -- Norman, affectionately known as "Sparkie" to his friends, was born in Greensburg, Indiana to George and Octavia Sparks. Norman was predeceased in 2007 by his loving wife of 61 years, Ethel, and five of his seven siblings. He is survived by his and Ethel's children, Barbara Hinkle, Michael Sparks (Marilyn), Rita Fambrough (Wallace Tetreault), Amy Hargrove (Bob), and Pat Sparks; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grand- children, his sisters Geneva Laswell and Doris Baumann, and many extended family members and close friends. Norman and Ethel moved their family to La Mesa in December of 1955 and in early 1956 bought the home where he resided until his passing. Sparkie and Ethel loved square dancing, motor home travel, camping, visits to New Zealand and Hawaii, and playing cards with their "card club" of lifelong friends. He also loved listening to classic country music, eating breakfast at his favorite café "The Trails", watching the Padres, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An electrician by trade, he was a member of IBEW Local 569 for 58 years. Sparkie will be remembered by all as a family man with great integrity and a clever sense of humor. A private interment is planned at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, where he and Ethel will rest together in eternity. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who wish may make a contribution to the charitable IBEW 'Brotherhood Committee' in his memory at the local IBEW 569 office, by calling 858-569-8900 and speaking with Dana.
