Patrick O'Connor Obituary

Patrick Jerome O'Connor August 5, 1938 - October 30, 2017 San Diego, CA Patrick Jerome O'Connor, the eldest son of Jerome and Frances O'Connor and one of San Diego's oldest well-known families, was one of 13 children. Born on August 5, 1938, he was a lifelong San Diegan and graduated from USD on a football scholarship in '61. He also served in the Coast Guard. The whole family was very involved in San Diego's aquatic programs, with Patrick winning the Military Div. of the L.J. Rough Water Swim in the 1960's. At 16, he was lifeguard at "Muni Pool" at Morley Field and continued to lifeguard at all local beaches while in college and later. In business, he first raised cattle and then bought a 43 acre ranch in Jamul. He started Crown Investment Group in 1971, and began constructing commercial properties and buying rentals. He would still stop by for coffee with his Mom each morning, and would entertain her with stories and get family news. His grandchildren meant the world to him and he was one of those "unforgettable people" that will be dearly missed by his many good friends and family.Patrick leaves: his wife Patricia, two sons, Daniel and Dennis; and sons Matthew and John by his previous wife Judy; his brothers Mike, Tom and Shawn and sisters Sharon, Diane, Colleen, Maureen (past Mayor of San Diego), and her twin sister, Mavourneen; and grandchildren, Patrick, Laurel, Devyn, Michael, Jack and Kelly. Preceding him in death: his parents Jerome and Frances, brothers Dennis and Tim and sisters Karen and Sheila.Suggested donations may be made to: Father Joe's VillageMemorial Mass to be held at St. Vincent De Paul Church in Mission Hills on Wednesday, Nov. 8th at 10:00 am.Friends and family will gather to celebrate Patrick's life at "Home and Away" after the Service. I had the privelege of meeting Pat O'Conner in Julian thru Kirby, and ended up getting to work for him at his place in Julian, and then also in San Diego after that. I actually looked forward to going to work. He would buy us breakfast, and then many times he would buy us a health drink at the juice bar. Over the years he was not just a guy I worked for but a dear friend, and I know my work buddies felt the same. I feel priveleged and blessed to have known him,I will miss him greatly. Best wishes and condolonces to his family

Met Pat at Kelly's pub in Old town, everyone in his family starting with pop and mom, gave their all to making us a better community with public service. Maureen's service on the Council, and as Mayor, served us well; she at 25, beating me at 27. Legacy we cherish.
