Paul Pickering Obituary

Paul Pierce Pickering III March 7, 2018 San Diego It is with sadness we report the passing of Paul Pierce Pickering III on March 7 2018 at the age of 71. A native of San Diego, he was an avid Chargers supporter and movie buff. You could always count on having an entertaining discussion with him about football or the latest movie he'd seen. Many will remember his great love of dogs, especially his shelties Bell and Honey or his younger days honing his photography skills and his passion for music. He is pre-deceased by his father, Paul Pierce Pickering II, a prominent plastic surgeon in San Diego, and his mother Dorothy Brown Pickering. Paul is survived by his sisters Brown Pickering Clark of Tucson, AZ and Priscilla Pickering Hughes of San Diego, their children Cantrell Bernau, William Clark (daughter and son to Brown) and Cameron (son to Priscilla) along with great niece Kyra Bernau and great nephew Alexander Clark. He will also forever be remembered by his long-time companion and friend Susanne Bolas. We hope to see his many friends and share stories at a reception which will be held at the family home in La Jolla at Colgate Circle on April 28th, 2018 from 2-5pm as Paul would say, "and there you have it."

In loving memory. I lived in Mission Hills and went to elementary school with Paul. I visited him many times in the hospital when he was confined to an iron lung. I brought him balloons which he would inflate to help strengthen his lungs. Every time I saw him he was positive and of good cheer. Those of you who shared his life as an adult know that well. In my life and in my memories Paul will always be cherished and never forgotten.

I never met Paul in person, but he is wonderful, caring and a very generous man. I am again very sorry for your loss. I had no idea that he was very sick to the point of dying, just as my husband, Alan was, who was in/out of the hospital/rehab center. I enjoyed talking to Paul over the phone about the condition of Alan, and his concerns about my health and well-being that I had always appreciate it. I felt that Paul and Alan always had a very special friendship and bond between them throughout life from the time they had first met and will continue on forever and ever.

Priscilla and Brown, You may not remember me but Paul and I were best of friends in kindergarten and 1st grade. I was with him when he was diagnosed and that memory and his struggles are seared in my mind. I have thought of him often and tried to find him several times but failed. I have missed him for years and will continue to do so.

I am so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. I knew Paul in our high school years, even though I went to La Jolla High, as I knew many of the San Miguel School guys. He was always upbeat and great to have as a friend. I fondly remember many fun times at his house at 4th of July parties and San Miguel School parties. Rest in peace, my friend. My condolences to his family.
