Taeko Udo Obituary

Taeko Tae Udo peacefully passed at the age of 92. Born in San Pedro, California, she was a long time resident of Chula Vista. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom Udo.

Tae worked for many years for the County of San Diego, first as an administrative secretary for the County Planning Department and eventually as administrative assistant to County Supervisor Tom Hamilton. She was an immensely creative person, with interests in ikebana, sewing, and is fondly remembered for making delightfully crafted gift wraps at Christmas. She and her husband Tom were lifelong members of the San Diego Zoo, where they would go almost weekly to visit their favorite animals. They were also die-hard Del Mar Fair attendees, where every year they would buy tiny plants that would then flourish in their amazing garden.

Tae was dedicated to her community and was a volunteer at Pioneer Ocean View Church, where she served as a Stephens Minister, helping to provide care and support to those in need. She also had a beautiful voice and sang in the choir. Her empathy and natural ability to listen and provide comfort, and her laughter and unbridled sense of joy will be greatly missed.

Taeko is survived by her siblings, Reiko Maruyama of Chula Vista, Yasuko Okazaki (James) of Mission Viejo, Ken Furukawa of Simi Valley and David Furukawa (Natchi) of Poway, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Pioneer Ocean View United Church of Christ in San Diego, Saturday, October 21, 2023, 10:00 am.

I remember Tae as a fellow county planning department employee. She was a sharing, caring person and well liked by everyone in the department.
