Wendell Wollam Obituary

Wendell Guy Wollam 11/13/1918 ~ 08/23/2010 BONSALL -- Born November 13, 1918 in Spiceland, Indiana, Wendell passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family and friends on Monday, August 23, 2010. His home was in Bonsall, California where he resided since 1975. He was an active Presbyterian minister for 40 years on both the East coast and the West coast. He began his career in Montauk, Long Island, NY, and East Moriches NY, then spent ten years as Pastor in Katonah, NY. He served at Carmel Presbyterian Church in Glenside, Pa., five years at Redlands First Presbyterian Church as an Associate Pastor, and served at Yucaipa Valley Presbyterian Church for 15 years before retirement. Education was important to him. He graduated from the Westtown Quaker School in Pa., Occidental College in Los Angeles where he was active in the Glee Club, Princeton Theological Seminary in NJ, and Union Theological Seminary in NY. He earned a Doctorate in Theology from San Francisco Theological Seminary. Wendell enjoyed oil painting, fly fishing, playing Scrabble, Elderhostels, and traveling with Marie to Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Scotland, England, Alaska, Hawaii and Holy Land. In his retirement, Dr. Wollam had participated in the life of First Congregational Church of Escondido. He was married to Marie Louise Hubbard in Southampton NY in 1945, who preceded him in death in 1998. Wendell is survived by two sons, Guy and Mark Wollam; and two daughters; Wendy Wollam Scherrer and Nan Wollam Deane; His ten grandchildren are Matt Wollam, Frank, Mark and Robert Wollam, Peter, Ben, and Katy Scherrer, and Megan, Melanie and Mackenzie Dean; great- grandchildren include Theo Scherrer and Ava Wollam. A service celebrating Wendell's life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 4th at the First Congregational Church of Escondido, 1800 North Broadway, Escondido with reception following. Mark and the Wollam Family-
