Yasuto "Yas" Tana

1940 - 2024

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Yasuto 'Yas' Tana. He was born on April 22, 1940 in Berkeley, CA and died on December 24, 2022. He resided in San Diego, CA for the last 40 years of his life.Yas was the beloved son of Daisho Tana and Tomoe Tana. He was the loving husband and partner of Alice Tana. They had no children. Alice predeceased Yas by six weeks.Yas attended Cubberley High School in Palo Alto, CA and graduated in 1958. He went on to continue his studies at the University of California and graduated in 1964 with a BS in electrical engineering. While at Cubberley and Cal, Yas was a running back in football and a sprinter on the track team. He was also the senior class president at Cubberley.Yasuto dedicated his life to serving in the Navy after graduating from Cal and ended his career as a Lt. Commander. He was a dedicated and honorable member of the military. His career included serving in wartime Vietnam and at the Pentagon. He met Alice in Washington D.C. while working at the Pentagon.After retirement from the Navy, Yas helped Alice with her public relations business and also with public relations activities that benefitted the Navy in the San Diego area.Surviving Yas are his brothers, Shibun, Chinin (Elizabeth), and Akira (Marjorie), nephews, Cameron (Michele), Evan (Kyna), Ryan (Angie) and niece, Kylie (Sal), grandnephews, Miles, Atticus, Owen, and grandniece, Ayla.A celebration of life for Yas and Alice will be held on July 12, 2024 at 3pm at the Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA 92122.
