Alexander Gauss Obituary

ALEXANDER GAUSS

"Al"

After several months of failing health, Alexander "Al" Gauss passed away peacefully in Fresno, on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008.

The youngest son of Fred (Gottfried) and Dorothy (Dorothea) Gauss was born in Fresno, in April of 1918. The family lived in the Biola area where Al attended local schools.

In 1941 he and his bride, Edna (Becker), moved to San Jose where he worked at Hendy Iron Works. A builder of Liberty Ships to support the World War II effort, he became a Journeyman Electrician. He and his family returned to live in Fresno in 1948 where he was employed by Italian Swiss Colony and Gallo Wineries.

Later he went to work for the County of Fresno as an electrician and was promoted to Maintenance Management Coordinator before he retired in 1978. Al and Edna spent most of their retirement years in Arroyo Grande, and returned to Fresno in 1999.

During his lifetime, Al enjoyed membership in the Masonic Order and the Native Sons of the Golden West.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his parents; and four brothers Christian "Chris", Jacob "Jack", Gottfried "Fred" and Heinrich "Henry".

Al is survived by his two daughters Gayle (William) Gleim; and Cheryle Hock; five grandchildren, Karin (Thomas) Chivers; Diane (Anthony Mineer) Gleim; Andrew (Tina) Schweikart; Cori (Paul) Larsen; and Michael (Tami) Schweikart; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Stephens & Bean Chapel 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008.

A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at Belmont Memorial Park, 201 N. Teilman, Fresno.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be sent to Twilight Haven, 1717 S. Winery, Fresno, Ca. 93727, or to donor's favorite charity.
