Alice Ragland Obituary

Alice Irene Ragland, 81, was born in March 1927 in Sylvan Grove, Kan., and

passed away Friday, July 11, 2008, in Morro Bay.

Alice was an incredibly strong woman and known as a 'sweet, kind and

thankful woman who appreciated life.'

She had four children of her own, but her life's messages were carried out

through the children she taught in her 50 years of teaching. She taught the

third grade, most recently for the Fresno Unified School District.

She made sure her kids (all of them) knew the importance of self relevance

and internal strength. Her passions were her family, music, and animals.

Alice is survived by her husband, Clarence; sons: Doy, Dan and Don Ragland; daughter, Cynthia Maxwell; grandchildren Rich, Vika, and Alex Ragland, and Melissa Courtney; great-grandchildren Bradley and Richard Ragland; brothers, Ralph and Robert McAlavey; sisters Donna Perkins, Lila Mizner, and Silvia Rutledge; and sisters-in-law, Becky Ferguson and Marilyn Ross.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Mary McAlavey, and brother, Ted McAlavey.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday July 18, 2008, at Wheeler-Smith Mortuary Chapel, 2890 S. Higuera St. in San Luis Obispo.

Contributions can be made to Wood's Humane Society.

I was proud to have been one of her little sisters and it is difficult to let her go but I have the comfort of knowing that we may have lost a sister here on earth but Heaven has gained a Special Angel to look after us.
