Brian Conroy Obituary

Brian Patrick Conroy 1945 2018 Brian died on Friday, March 2, 2018, after a valiant years-long fight against the ravages of diabetes. He was a beloved husband, a wonderful father, and a creative and talented architect. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sonsie, and his son, Patrick. Brian was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the San Fernando Valley. He graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1963 and attended Los Angeles City College to study architecture and drafting. He had always wanted to be in the field, inspired by his father, Eugene, a successful architect. He managed his father's Denver office for five years before the family moved to the San Luis Obispo area in 1978. He started work for Santa Lucia Hills in the early 1980s and was responsible for designing hundreds of homes in the Edna Islay area (the "flower streets" between Tank Farm Road and Broad Street) and many homes in The Arbors. He also specialized in custom homes, especially in the Saddle Creek development near Copperopolis, CA. Brian was a charter member of the San Luis Obispo Daybreak Rotary Club, founded in 1998. He donated hundreds of hours of community service, including managing the charity golf tournament and designing the community garden in Meadow Park. Before his health necessitated his retirement from the club, he was chosen Rotarian of the Year. Brian was predeceased by his parents, Eugene Conroy and Viola Trenne Conroy. He is survived by his wife and son, as well as sister, Sharon Fratilla and three nieces: Daryn Lombardo, Jeana Daily, and Heather Harrell. He is also survived by his dear friend and cousin, Fred Blasgen. At his request, there will be no services. Friends who would like to do so may contribute to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (http://www.jdrf.org) or a charity of their choice.

I'll miss Brian! With his great sense of humor, cool and level headed approach to any challenge, he was a pleasure to know. I worked with Brian at Santa Lucia Hills in the heyday of development and considered him a friend. I'm sorry for the family's loss.

Brian helped my family and I put together plans for a house addition and he was wonderful. I will never forget him coming over and spending time with us and being kind and helpful. He will be missed and not forgotten.

I have known Brian for over thirty years and he was a gentle special soul. He always wanted the best for everyone. He was a great co-worker, business partner and friend. I will miss the time we spent going to lunch and talking about his current architecture projects and if we had time we would visit projects he was interested in. I will miss his sense of humor and the way he always enjoyed a good joke. The last couple of months were tough on him and his family, but he is at peace now. I am a better person for knowing Brian.
