Charles Breslin Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Breslin, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014. He was the only child born to Patrick Henry Breslin and Bela Reckmeyer Breslin in Los Angeles. Following his high school years, Chuck joined the military and served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps. He served on the competition shooting team and traveled to many places in the world as an expert with both pistols, rifles and other firearms. He won many awards and honors for his exceptional abilities. As a result of his interest in shooting sports, he was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). After his service to his country, Chuck went to work in the aerospace industry, where he was on the original design team that designed the space suits worn by the first astronauts, many of whom he met. During this time he was also an expert SCUBA and free diver, which he taught in the industry and for the County of Los Angeles. He invented many of the devices which are still in use in SCUBA diving equipment today. He loved the ocean and his diving adventures. Chuck's first love was dogs and he had a passion for training and competing with his Labrador Retrievers across the country. In 1993, he moved to Paso Robles and opened Four Paws Kennel, one of the finest boarding facilities in the area. This afforded him the opportunity to breed, train and participate in field competitions nationwide, having won many honors. He was an AKC Judge and a NAHRA Judge and a founding member of the Central Coast Hunting Retriever Club, which he enjoyed so much and made many friends. In 2013, Chuck and Jane moved from the ranch and Four Paws to the City of Paso Robles. Large in stature and heart, Chuck's generosity, positive attitude, optimistic nature and infections laugh and humor will be long treasured by all who knew and loved him. Chuck is loved, missed and survived by his wife and best friend, Jane Breslin; daughters Joy Breslin Stewart, Ruth Breslin Kraft (Bob); granddaughter, Besse Leigh Breslin; grandson, Patrick Kraft; and great-grandson, Miles Parsons. He is also loved and survived by stepson, Scott Sanderson; stepdaughter Stacey Twisselman (Nolan); and step-grandchildren James and Michael Sanderson and Tyan and Blaize Twisselman. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, wife, June S. Breslin; and two very special friends, Sterling Davis and Albert Stewart. A "Celebration of his Life" open house will be held for his friends and loved ones between 10:30 a.m. and noon Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at a private facility at 1047 Tranquil Hills in Paso Robles.

Chuck helped me find my first labrador pup in 2003, and we could not have been happier with her. We bought our second lab pup from Chuck in May 2007 and were disappointed to hear that he would not be breeding much longer because he felt he was getting to old to do it much longer. He seemed so young at heart and was so excited talking to us about labs. He was a great help to us when we had any questions about the breed. Chuck was a wonderful man and I hope that he has met up with all his dogs that have crossed the rainbow bridge before he arrived. Thanks Chuck for two wonderful labs you helped create for us! Blessings!

It is an honor to have known Chuck Breslin: from his kind eyes to his gargantuan heart. May his memory be eternal. We have always admired the positive outlook and wisdom, he exude. Chuck was always in a good mood and enjoying life. At all times, this feeling was palpable. Lastly, Thank you for blessing us and trusting us to take Tucker into our home. He has been such a blessing to our family and life would not be the same without him. We will miss you Chuck. Love, Robert and Nicolette Silva

I will miss the generous spirit that Chuck added to any gathering. This man initiated me in the sport of desert motorcycle riding around 45 years ago. I also hiked a couple of passes in the high Sierra with the man, and the last time I saw him, I lost a few hands of poker to him. I will miss his warm personality. A really good guy to have as a friend.

Chuck was simply wonderful! He was one of those unique individuals whose presence made the world a better place. With respect to retrieving, Chuck was both an outstanding handler and superb judge. We were blessed to have trained with Chuck on many occasions. We both competed with him, and ran under him at hunt tests. And we were his guests at his beloved Four Paws Kennel. RIP.

Chuck was a first-class Labrador breeder, bird hunting enthusiast, and kind gentleman. My wife, who grew up over the ridge from Four Paws, bought our Lab, Blue, from Chuck nearly a decade ago. Many hunts at Big Sandy, Parkfield, and Colusa reminded me of Chuck and our fortune that we were able to get a Four Paws Labrador. A great man with a great passion!

Chuck introduced me to the Hunt Test sport. He taught me many things about dog training and judging. I enjoyed his stories and training together at Prado and visits with him at the kennel. The dog world has lost an ambassador for the sport.

Chuck you were a wonderful person and a testimony as to how a real man should live. I still laugh when I re-tell your jokes to friends. I will never forget you dear friend. Say hello to my dad for me .you can't miss him , he is the mason laying the bricks of gold with a smile on his face for our Father God.
