Chester Zinn Obituary

Chester Zinn Chester "Chet" Eugene Zinn, 88, beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away on August 6, 2015. Chet was born in 1927, in Tulsa, Okla., and raised in Kansas City, Mo. At age 17 he joined the United States Navy and served as a Seaman First Class during World War II from 1944 to 1945. Following the war, Chet married Beverly Jean Aylea in 1949. In 1954, Chet and Beverly moved to Morro Bay, Calif., with their two children, Anna Lynn and Chet, Jr. Throughout his life, Chet was an active part of the Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo County communities. He helped to fire up the new PG&E Power Plant in Morro Bay, working as an Equipment Operator. He and Beverly owned and operated Park Grocery and Liquor and the Park Motel for many years as well. In addition, Chet and Beverly were Broker/Owners of ERA Z and R Realty and active in Real Estate for 20 years. Chet was a life-long member of the Masonic Lodge and a resident of San Luis Obispo County for 60 years. He was also a charter member of the first Morro Bay City Council, serving from 1964 to 1966. For the last few years of his life, Chet resided at the Villages in San Luis Obispo and loved the people and activities. His wife, Beverly, preceded him in death in 2006. He is survived by his children, Anna Lynn Zinn and Chester E. Zinn, Jr. (Carrie); grandchildren: Jason, Julianna, Jarrod, Charlie and Mary, and numerous great- grandchildren. Chet loved his family, people and golf, and he always had a smile on his face and a joke to share with anyone he met. He was a hard worker and constantly tried to improve himself. He was an optimist who treated everyone he met like a friend. He also loved a good Martini! A Celebration of Chet's Life will take place on Saturday, August 29 at the Rancho Colina Clubhouse on Highway 41 from noon to 3:00pm. Please come for lunch and to share your memories of Chet. Our family lived across the street from Bev & Chet Zinn for many years in Morro Bay. Growing up with such wonderful neighbors was such a blessing. Chet was so very kind and I know he'll be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. We will all remember Chet for his exceptional kindness, quick sense of humor and great smile.
