Douglas Le Sage Obituary

Douglas Le Sage passed away peacefully at his home in Arroyo Grande on April 1, 2017, at the age of 86. He is predeceased by his parents Henry and Marion Le Sage, and brother James Le Sage. Doug is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 64 years. Doug is lovingly remembered by his wife; daughters Lisa Le Sage and Lori Hillman; son-in-law Donovan Hillman; grandson, Steven Hillman; sister-in-law Ruth Le Sage Reilly; brother-in-law Steve Powell; sister-in-law Dianne Powell; and many nephews and nieces. Doug was born in Los Angeles in 1931. Growing up on a ranch in Woodland Hills, he became interested in everything Western. After he graduated from high school, he attended Pierce Junior College before signing up with the U.S. Air Force. It was during his service in Alabama that Doug and Barbara met and married in 1952. Doug joined his father's Real Estate and Contracting Business in San Fernando Valley. The Le Sage Enterprises Inc. developed the Le Sage Rivera Golf and Mobile Home Park in 1962 and in 1964, Doug and family permanently moved to Arroyo Grande to oversee this project. Doug has been a member of the South County Historical Society for 40 years. He was actively involved in establishing the SCHS Heritage House and Garden, the museum and school house. He participated and supported in many local and regional organizations, including the Boys Scouts, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Advisory Council, as well as being a patron at the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, Wyoming. He was a life time sponsor of Ducks Unlimited. A memorial honoring Doug will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at the Arroyo Grande Heritage House and Garden, 126 S. Mason St., Arroyo Grande. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to South County Historical Society, P.O. Box 633, Arroyo Grande, 93421-0633. So sorry to hear of my dear friend Doug's passing. We went to St. Ambrose Grade School in West Hollywood together from the first grade.We lived two blocks from each other.He was a unique individual, whom I will dearly miss.
