Gerri Nelson Obituary

San Francisco, California - Geraldine (Gerri) Grace Nelson went home to be with her Savior on August 26, 2022 in San Francisco, CA at the age of 90. She was born in Shafter, CA to Finley Osborn and Alice Dorothy Kuentzel Osborn in 1932. She graduated from Wasco High School and went on to study Art at Bakersfield City College. In 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Charles (Charlie) Nelson.
Kern County is where they made their home and she gave birth to their children, Terry Michael and Lisa Diane. In the 1960's they became a receiving home for over 50 newborn babies awaiting adoption or placement in foster care. Their special love of children was always apparent. Her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world.
A CHP transfer brought them to San Luis Obispo where Gerri set up a new household for her family. In the late '60's Gerri went back to work for Kenneth Daniels DDS and Lee Hollister DDS. In the '70's Gerri went to work in the pharmacy at the Cal Poly Health Center until retirement.
Gerri's talent and love for art carried on throughout her life. She worked with many mediums, but her focus became landscapes in oils and acrylic. She attended and taught classes throughout her life including those at her retail ceramics store. After retirement, her beautiful detail in oils and acrylic had an opportunity to emerge in Toile style painting. In her later years she took up quilting, where as in all her art, she made cherished friendships that lasted her lifetime.
Gerri is survived by her children: Terry (Liz) Nelson of Modesto, Lisa (David) Rodgers of Atascadero. Grandchildren: Ben (Lydia) Starr, Amanda (Jeff) Cooley, Blaine (Melissa) Rodgers, Cullen (Katie) Rodgers, Morgan (Stephanie) Rodgers and 11 Great-Grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Stanley Osborn and Patricia Kearns and many well loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, her parents and her brother, Robert Osborn.
A memorial service will be held September 24, 2022 @ 2pm.
