Keshav Gupta Obituary

Keshav Gupta
October 12, 1941 - May 27, 2023
Pismo Beach, California - Keshav Gupta, known affectionally as "Kris" by the many people who knew him, passed away on May 27th surrounded by his loving family. Keshav is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kiran Gupta and his sons Sandeep, and Manish, his grandchildren Sanjay, Nikhil, their mother Leslie; grandchildren Vineet and Anika and Daughter-in-law Swati. Kris was a big part of the central coast community for over 40 years, and played a large role in shaping the Indian-American community across the central coast. Born in Punjab, India in 1941, he grew up in Karol Bagh, New Delhi, and received his Bachelor of Commerce from Jalanda. He moved to London, England at the age of 21 and received his Chartered Accountant degree at the age of 25.
On Dec 4th 1968, he married Kiran who was to become his wife, lifelong partner, and confidant for more than 50 years. Together they would build a future together for themselves and their family. Keshav was always surrounded by close friends and built a tight-knit community that were striving to build a new life for themselves and their children in a new country.
In 1970's London he worked as a chartered account and financial controller for a number of companies including the early days of Virgin Records. In the late 70's he branched out on his own creating multiple businesses including a restaurant, China shop and a Post Office Franchise.
In 1981, he moved with his family to Pismo Beach where he brought his spirit of entrepreneurship and over the course of the next 40 years would build businesses that spanned across the Central Coast. From Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo to Atascadero, Cayucos, and San Simeon. This included: the Amber Motel, Ocean Palms Motel, Dolphin Inn, Courtesy Inn, Oceanside Inn, Dolphin Cove Motel, Mission Inn, the Jewel of India Restaurant, and Star Video Rentals. He was in every way a pillar of the community, and a welcomed confidant to many.
Keshav will be most remembered for his big heart and willingness to help others. His laugh and energy were infectious and he brought his positive spirit wherever he went. Throughout his life he fought for others, and provided much need financial support to many. He was a force of nature, that always did things his way including whatever he could to make the world a better place for those around him. His love for his children and grandchildren was immense. They were his heart and soul. He will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A celebration of Keshav's life will be held on Tuesday June 6th at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts in Arroyo Grande from 2 - 4pm.
